DAY WISE ITINERARY
FOR SANDAKPHU LAND ROVER TOUR PACKAGES
· DAY 1: NJP to Manebhanjan
Arrive at New Jalpaiguri and drive to Manebhanjan via Mirik, famous for its
Land Rovers. After checking in, relax or take a walk to explore the local
market.
Overnight stay at Manebhanjan.
· DAY 2: Manebhanjan to Sandakphu
After breakfast, drive to Sandakphu. The road is steep and winding, so only
4-wheel drive vehicles can make the journey. Enjoy stunning views of Mt.
Kanchenjungha, Mt. Everest, and other Himalayan peaks.
Overnight stay at Sandakphu.
· DAY 3: Sandakphu to Phalut Excursion & Tumling
Optional Phalut excursion (extra charge). After breakfast, take a
2.5-hour Jeep ride to Phalut for panoramic views of Kanchenjungha and Mt.
Everest. Then, head to Tumling/Tonglu.
Overnight stay at Tumling.
· DAY 4: Tumling to Manebhanjan
After breakfast, drive back to Manebhanjan, ending your memorable journey.

CARRY FOR SANDAKPHU PACKAGE TOUR WITH LAND ROVER
✅ FOR SANDAKPHU TREKKING
If you are planning to trek in Singalila National Park, you
must get a special trekking permit. Don't worry - Adorable Vacation will
arrange this permit for you. All you need to do is share a photocopy of any
valid government ID, such as your Aadhar Card, Voter ID, Driving License, or
Passport. Without this permit, you won't be allowed to enter the Singalila
National Park or trekking area, as it is a protected region with wild animals.
Adorable Vacation will take care of all the paperwork you need for Sandakphu
trekking.
✅ FOR SANDAKPHU TOUR BY
LANDROVER
If you are visiting Sandakphu and Phalut by Land Rover, you
need to carry both the original and a photocopy of a government-approved ID
(Aadhar, Voter ID, Passport, or Driving License). Before starting the journey
from Manebhanjan, you must show your ID to the Adorable Vacation executive, who
will then prepare your entry permits and park tickets. You may also have to
show your documents and passes at security checkpoints guarded by SSB jawans
(soldiers) along the route, so keep them handy.
IMPORTANT TIPS
✅ It is best to carry all your
documents in a transparent plastic cover, to keep them safe in case it rains.
✅ Apart from ID documents,
trekkers should bring all necessary trekking essentials such as: Trekking
shoes, Backpack with rain cover, Trekking pants and socks (at least 3 pairs),
Sunglasses, sun cap, hand gloves, Raincoat or rainwear, Headlamp or flashlight,
Personal toiletries [toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, tissue roll, moisturizer,
lip balm, deodorant, sanitary pads (for women)], etc.
✅ Help Keep the Mountains Clean:
All trekkers are strictly requested not to litter. Please carry a zipped bag to
collect your own waste like sanitary pads, plastic wrappers, and bottles. Do
not pollute the beautiful trails. Take only memories, leave only footprints.
🕒 How long does it
take to reach Sandakphu from Manebhanjan by Land Rover?
The distance from Manebhanjan to Sandakphu is about 32 km.
It takes around 2.5 hours to reach Sandakphu by Land Rover, including short
stops at Tumling and Kalipokhri (15 minutes each). The road is steep and rough,
so only these strong old Land Rovers can handle the terrain easily.
🚙 How many Land Rovers
are available from Manebhanjan for the Sandakphu tour?
There are about 40 Land Rovers running from Manebhanjan for
Sandakphu and Phalut tours. These vehicles are managed and operated by the
Singalila Land Rover Owners' Welfare Association. Only Land Rovers are allowed
to take tourists up this mountain route.
🚙 How old are these Land Rovers?
Most of the Land Rovers in Sandakphu are over 70 years old!
The first ones were introduced as early as 1940 by the British. Today, some
have been upgraded with new metal bodies, but the vintage look and feel are
still preserved inside.
👥 How many people can
travel in one Land Rover?
Each Land Rover can carry up to 6 people. 1 person sits next
to the driver and 5 people sit at the back. Luggage is kept on the roof of the
vehicle.
🏔️ Where does the Land
Rover stay during the trip?
After dropping you at your hotel or trekkers' hut in
Sandakphu, the Land Rover stays parked there overnight. The driver usually
stays at a nearby village. If you're going to Phalut the next day, the same
vehicle and driver will take you there after breakfast. Just note: sometimes
due to cold weather, the vehicle may take extra time to start in the morning.
🌤️ When is the best
time to trek Sandakphu for clear views?
For the best mountain views, especially of the Himalayas
including Mt. Kanchenjunga and Mt. Everest, visit between the end of October
and end of November. The weather is usually clear and perfect for trekking.
❄️ Is December a good time to
see the mountains?
Yes, December also offers great views, although it can be
very cold. You can still see Mt. Kanchenjunga and other peaks clearly on most
days - visibility is usually around 70%.
🌍 Do foreigners need a
double-entry visa to trek to Sandakphu and Phalut?
No, a double-entry visa is not needed. The trekking route
crosses the India-Nepal border multiple times, but there are no border checks
for trekkers. You may see a few Indian Army check posts, but they usually track
vehicles, not trekkers.
🌡️ What is the
temperature in Sandakphu in December?
In December, it can get very cold in Sandakphu—often around
0°C or even below freezing. So, make sure to carry enough warm clothes and
winter gear.
🥾 How should I prepare
for the Sandakphu Trek?
Most of the trek is a mix of gentle and moderate paths
through forests and meadows. The last stretch from Kalipokhri to Sandakphu is
steep. It's best to prepare your body with regular walking or exercise for at
least a month before the trek.
🚗 How long does it
take to reach Sandakphu by car?
It usually takes 3-4 hours to reach Sandakphu from
Manebhanjan by Land Rover. The last part of the road, about 8 km, is very steep
and takes almost an hour to cover.
👨👩👧👦Can kids or senior citizens travel to Sandakphu?
Due to the high altitude and cold weather, it's not
recommended for kids under 5 or adults over 65. Also, if someone has heart or
lung issues, they should check with a doctor before visiting.
🥾 Can we trek from Sandakphu to Phalut?
Yes, you can. You'll need to spend a night in Phalut, and a
guide is mandatory for this route. Make sure to plan with your tour operator in
advance.
📅 What's the best
season for a Sandakphu tour package?
October to November is the best time for both trekking and
the Sandakphu Land Rover tour. If you want to enjoy both trekking and the jeep
ride, you can walk a part of the way and ask your jeep to meet you later.
💡 Is electricity
available in Sandakphu?
Yes, but it's limited. Most places rely on solar power. You
may get electricity from 6 PM to 8 AM, but don't expect room heaters or
geysers.
