Domestic workers form an essential part of urban life and are usually employed in almost all the homes nowadays. Whereas some families could afford to maintain a full time maid who normally takes care of all the usual chores like cooking and cleaning while others hire maids for specialized jobs like only cooking or babysitting. We at PostLo.com did research on the cost of hiring a house maid and its variation between different trades and type of city (metropolitan vs small).

The Domestic help services can be divided into many grounds:

Whether the maid is a full time or a partial helper.

If the maid is a regular helper as an employee or is working on a day basis.

Based on speciality i.e. if they will Cook, Clean, Babysit, Elderly Care.

Size of household:Maid charges for speciality services like Cooking vary with the number of members in the household. Other services like cleaning, dusting, moping have charges depending on size of the house like number of rooms, size of room etc.

Experience:Charges vary greatly with experience of the maid especially for speciality services like cooking, baby sitting etc. A maid with 10 years of babysitting experience will likely charge more with just 2 years of experience.

Area Household Income:Charges vary with areas within the same city: Within the same city, the areas with high income households normally have more charges for maid service than areas with low income households.

Event based:The charges of the event based maid service like move out cleaning, sick elderly care etc are not just dependent on the work itself but also urgency of the required service. The distance which maid needs to travel for the job also factored in the charges.

Maid reputation:Some maids are famous for their sincerity or working style and people don’t mind paying them more.

Proximity to the slum area:Areas which are close slum areas tend to have bigger supply of maids and so the charges are usually lower than areas which are farther from the slum area.
